Welcome to Punchbowl Boys’ High School’s website.

Punchbowl Boys' High School is a highly proactive educational community that provides dynamic learning and social opportunities for all our students. These opportunities allow all members of the school community to work towards achieving their goals.

In 2023 the school implemented outstanding initiatives to engage students in the learning cycle in and beyond the classroom. These initiatives constantly promoted improved student expectations and attendance.

Highlights during the year included:

•     Improved HSC results. Year 12 students achieved a number of Band Six and Five results. There was a 13.59% increase in the number of students achieving in the top three bands compared to 2022. 46% of the year group were also offered university placements due to their strong results.

•     Hotel School at SeaWorld, Gold Coast. During this program students learnt the numerous roles related to the hospitality industry. Ten students were engaged during the three-day program that focused on all areas of hospitality management.

•     'Cut Above the Rest' Barbering Program. The barbering program taught by MJ from Ministry Barbers. A dozen students took part in the program to learn all the skills related to the barbering industry. During this program, students not only developed new skills but greater confidence in their learning. The program resulted in one student being offered an apprenticeship at Ministry Barbers.

•     Stage Four Extended Writing Program. The extended writing program for Stage Four students across all key

learning areas supported Year 7 and 8 students to improve their ability to write extended response questions both in class and during examinations.

Students continued to embrace the school philosophy of Dream more (Engage), Learn more (Educate), Do more (Empower) and Be more (Excel) across the calendar year, as they worked towards their academic and social goals.

School Plan

The school continued to consolidate the School Plan to support initiatives to assist in achieving school targets. This has seen an increase in both student academic and attendance data.

In 2024, the staff will collaborate in developing the new school plan for 2025. The initiatives decided upon will support all students to achieve outcomes and instill strategies to support staff in strengthening learning and engagement at the school.

HSC Improvement

The school was recognised during the year by the New South Wales Department of Education as one of the fastest- moving schools transitioning students towards the top three bands of academic achievement in the HSC.

This was highlighted again with several students achieving high bands in their selected subjects. This included Band six scores in both Advanced and Standard Mathematics and Band five scores in Economics, Physics, Visual Arts, PDHPE, Modern History and Business Studies. Over 46% of students were offered university placements and 27% of the cohort were transitioned through our strong careers programs into TAFE and apprenticeship training options in 2024 after completing their HSC studies.

The Year 12 cohort should be extremely proud of their achievements in the Higher School Certificate.

Increased Attendance

The overall attendance rate for students increased in 2023 by 4.5% compared to 2022. Attendance at school is the critical factor in students achieving academic success. The school increasingly engaged parents and caregivers through a range of developed processes and strategies to empower them to take a more active role in their sons attendance which resulted in an improvement in overall attendance. moving in line with SSSG. The school enjoyed its biggest improvement in the number of students attending 90% of the time in 2023, recording a 12% increase when compared to 2022.
