Punchbowl Boys' High School is the home of Band 320 and 320J.
It also the home of various alternative rock legends such as Raymond Ahn, Peter Black, and Keish De Silva - all of whom have gone on to achieve worldwide fame over the last four decades.
In 2018, Band 320 was crowned champions of the Youthrock Band Competition - the largest unsigned band competition in the state.
The band’s name pays homage to the room number of their former Music Teacher, Mr. Michael White, at Punchbowl Boys’ High School.
The boys outperformed bands from across NSW.
Their winnings include $2000 worth of musical instruments, a professional photoshoot, legal advice and recording time.
Due to the band's dutiful approach to their studies and excellent mentorship, two of the band members, Micah Papalii-Talanai and Yoosuf Mohamed, achieved Band 6 in Music and were subsequently named into the 2019 HSC Distinguished Achievers' List.
The rest of the band members also achieved high marks and were awarded Band 5 marks in Music.
Mohamed went on to accept an offer to undertake a Bachelor of Arts and Education degree at The University of Sydney.
Papalii-Talanai was awarded a scholarship to undertake a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree at St. Andrew's College within The University of Sydney.
With 320 graduating, our new band - named 320J - was born at the end of 2019. The band consists of five members who practice during lunch and recess with Ms. Tsang. They are also withdrawn from classes once a week to practice their skills.
Our school is equipped with a fully furnished music room equipped with everything an aspiring musician will need to hone his skills.
