Punchbowl Boys' High School is the birthplace and home of the mighty Pioneers - our school basketball team.
Established in 2018, the Pioneers started off as a program that catered to 8 students. Today, it caters to over 50 students from Year 7-12.
Who the Pioneers program for?
The Pioneers program empowers both gifted and talented as well as mid to beginner-level players to excel in basketball through elite training from our qualified coaches.
Coaches
Our team is operated by accredited coaches who have experience in the zone, regional, state, and national levels.
Training
Our team trains every Wednesday after school from 03:15 pm to 04:15 pm.
Game Days
Game days depend on the student's level of competition and year group.
Primary School Gala Days
On 09 March 2020, our school introduced the first Pioneers Gala Day.
On the day, over 100 students from six of our local primary schools participated in skills training from our coaches and 30 of our players.
Future gala days are in the works for later this year.
Clinics & Excursions
Members of the Pioneers will have opportunities to watch NBL and FIBA games every single year.
They will also have the opportunity to participate in basketball clinics ran by special guests such as the Sydney Kings.
This year, our students were visited by Sydney Kings' MVP for 2020, Jae'Sean Tate.
In 2019, our students had the opportunity to see LaMelo Ball square off against the Sydney Kings. Our students also watch a match between the New Zealand Tall Blacks and the Canadian national basketball team. The boys had the pleasure of seeing Coach Nick Nurse in action. Coach Nurse is the current coach for the reigning NBA champions, the Toronto Raptors.
In 2018, the team had the privilege of watching the Sydney Kings face the Japanese national basketball team.
